General English is a group course with the option to have 20 or 35 lessons per week. This course can be taken short term (1-8 weeks) or longer term (8+ weeks). By following a General English group course, you will improve your fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary and command of essential grammar. The focus and content of General English Individual is completely flexible and determined by your needs and preferred learning style. Individual lessons allow you to concentrate on your specific learning needs and objectives, helping to reach your goals faster. In a personalised learning environment, the teacher can give very tailored feedback to accelerate your learning. This course suits individuals with very specific needs or those who want a totally customised experience.

 Our 50 PLUS programme is offered eight times per year for more mature learners who wish to combine learning English with their interest in learning about culture. It focuses very much on fluency and developing the confidence you need to speak English for everyday situations and conversations.

As a 50 PLUS learner, you take 20 lessons per week of 45 minutes each. Lessons are held every morning, and are followed by specially organised excursions and activities where you get to know the rich culture of York and England with a focus on history, art, architecture, literature and cuisine.

Our IELTS Exam Preparation course, with options of 35 or 30 lessons per week, focuses exclusively on preparation for the IELTS exam. Our experienced teachers use an IELTS course book and targeted exam practice with personalised materials to help students to get the IELTS grade they need for their proposed academic or vocational futures (A2 required on entry).

 This course combines General English in the mornings with IELTS exam preparation study in the afternoons. It’s a great way to develop your English for everyday conversation and social situations, with lessons which help you get the IELTS test results you need for your future academic studies (A2 required on entry).

Intensive York Courses are for students who want an intensive longer-term learning programme with a fixed starting date, a range of durations to choose from (12 / 18 / 24 / 30 / 36 weeks) and flexible learning pathways which can be customised to focus on specific interests and needs.

Become more effective when communicating with international contacts. By following a Business Communication group course, you will develop the English you need at work: grammar and business / profession-specific vocabulary. You can also work on your professional communication skills such as leading / participating in (virtual) meetings, delivering presentations, negotiating, telephoning, socialising and writing emails. This course will also help you increase your intercultural competence (understanding ‘culture’, profiling your own and others’ culture) and give you tips to manage diversity effectively.
